T2 Hybrid Bases - planned Kickstarter late Spring

Looking for greater TTRPG immersion, then this is a base for you.

The T2 Hybrid Base is for players who want a low-profile pre-slotta like base when they crawl a dungeon and the grandeur of a plinth to show their models when on display. Rims come in standard sizes so they can be worn for wargaming too.

13 Photo-Realistic Textured Bases included

Just because they are small doesn't mean you have to miss out. It's base-up story telling. The topper is the base of the miniature. Embossed with real flooring and other ground textures. The base and the rim connect by a magnet in each.

13 different textures per base size and there's 4-6 different versions of each texture. That's 50+ toppers for each one of the 33 base sizes!

Textures are taken from photography, that's why they are so detailed. The final layer is flat, so they are perfect for FDM printing. A blank base in each size is included too, so you can do your own thing with it.

T2 Hybrid Base FAQs

What magnets can I use?

These bases require two magnets to bring the base top and the lower rim together. They don't need to be very powerful so N35 magnets will do. Both components will hold up to a 15x1mm magnet, although in practice they can be much smaller, we use 10x1mm magnets.

The lower magnet is demountable, the upper magnet is glued in place because the base top is only 2.35mm in height.

Top and bases can be glued together too, in which case there is no need to install magnets unless you wish too. Note than when the two are glued together, the combined magnet chamber is 15x2mm and they are demountable too.

Do they print easily on FDM printers?

Yes. T2 Hybrid bases are designed specifically for reliable FDM printing.

Because the system includes threaded components, good print precision is important. A layer height of 0.16 mm or lower is recommended for optimal results.

Can they be printed on a resin printer?

T2 Hybrid bases are designed for FDM printing and optimised for thermoplastic materials such as PLA or PLA+.

Because the system uses threaded connections, materials with a small amount of flexibility are preferred for a snug fit. FDM plastics naturally provide this, while most resins are more rigid. Resin toppers can be a great complement to FDM bases.

How do T2 Hybrid Bases differ from standard bases?

Quite a lot. They are designed to separate into halves, unless you want to join them with glue. During painting the rim can stay apart from the miniature and top base, keeping it clean. Rims you see through out the website images are unpainted FDM prints, usually printed is several colours. When you bring the two together the look is very clean.

The intention of the T2 Hybrid base is to abandon the rim for gameplay so that the footprint of the miniature is minimal as can be, this sits better in a rich terrain environment. But, and it's a big but, miniatures pop on a base, so it's nice to have a base rim when on the shelf, or, you can fit the base rim and take part in some wargaming, you have options.

RPGs also generally use the floor tiles for measurement, so a plinth base is redundant in play.

The pre-slotta size T2 Hybrid bases are really minimal, much more akin to metal bases pre plastic plinth bases. They are very discreet but they still bring a bit of story telling through their photorealistic textures, these primarily being types of dungeon flooring.

The T2 Hybrid base is actually an indulgence of mine, John, because my collection is predominantly old lead and I want my old and new models to sit well together, so I created this base mainly for that reason. T2 Hybrid base is my base of choice, particularly the pre-slotta sizes, and I'm sure there's others out there that will enjoy them too. You can see the bases on many of my miniatures @rotten_painter.
