General FAQs
FAQ1 Why Kickstarter? Why not just start selling?
A strong launch gives any project real momentum — and that makes a big difference.
Kickstarter helps build awareness, attract backers, and funds the next project, and since there are already several in the pipeline, that's important.
Because all products are digital STL files, delivery happens shortly after each campaign ends — no long waits for shipping.
You can already find several 3D printable products on MyMiniFactory, including some free downloads: the Wash & Rinse Paint Bongo (you'll understand when you see it), Paint Handle Adaptors, a Zenithal Spray Booth Kit, and a Desktop Stand for Flip-Top Pots.
FAQ2 Who are you, Are you a new business?
I’m John Hatfield, and while Kickstarter and digital products are new for me, running a business isn’t.
I’ve been designing and selling physical tools and accessories for several years, focusing on practical, durable designs that solve real problems.
I work with others behind the scenes, but product design is entirely my responsibility.
I’ve collected and painted miniatures since the 1980s — and even sold miniatures and games back then.
With over ten years of 3D printing experience, I’m combining what I’ve learned from both worlds to create dependable tools for the miniature hobby.
FAQ3 Why describe some products as “systems”?
Most designs are modular — they are creative toolkits so I refer to them as systems. Each will be supplied with several useful ready-to-print set designs to get you started, the possibilities to build on these will be very apparent as you combine and expand them to build custom setups that fit your space and workflow.
Every product has its own FAQ that highlights its modular options and 'how-to' videos will appear as each gets nearer to launch.
FAQ4 Why do so many designs use magnets?
Magnets make components seamlessly removable which provides value through duel use and improved workflow. Most designs also include a fixed (non-magnetic) versions too, I use both in my own workspace.
Where magnets are used, I try to make them easily removable too, so you can replace or reuse them for other projects.
FAQ5 Have the products been tested?
Absolutely. Everything started as something I built for my own use — some are years old and all have had dozens of iterations of refinement through constant use by me and others.
I always aim to add value beyond a tools obvious purpose. For example, our paint rack “magazine” system lets you move paint sets from wall to desk in groups, store or transport them safely, keep grouped colours together, and even shake several bottles at once.
Each design is built for real hobbyists, tested in real use, and improved over time — I’m confident they’ll serve you just as well.
